Flex Maslan
Czech-born digital artist and photographer Flex Maslan (digital029art), spent formative years growing up in South Florida, and has lived all around the United States. While drawing was my first love, I took up photography as a teen with an antique Czech TLR camera called a Flexaret, which would become my nickname & namesake. I am completely self-taught, and have experienced a re-birth in photography in recent years, nicely coinciding with developments in digital technology. Whereas previously, I pursued a technical career as a software developer via a BA in Mathematics, I have now made digital art and photography my main artistic focus.
As far as subject matter, it could be almost anything, although I tend to focus more on the unusual, un-photographed or under-photographed. I strive for original images and take full advantage of digital methods and the freedoms offered! We are only at the embryonic stage as far as digital art is concerned, and it is an exciting time! I believe digital media is making art and music more accessible and democratic; empowering more people and reshaping our world for the better by de-centralizing media and entertainment! Not that technology itself alone can save us, but we must embrace it nevertheless! On the flip side, I like to take some very common subjects or classic themes and develop them from a different, often local perspective. As an active kayaker and camper insomniac, I am able to bring back images and viewpoints that few will ever otherwise see!
